A tall, classy ball‑runner with a powerful kicking game, Burton continues to evolve as one of the NRL’s premier five‑eighths.
Burton made his NRL debut for the Penrith Panthers in Round 21 on 9 August 2019 against the Cronulla‑Sutherland Sharks.
He spent his early years at Penrith playing centre and five‑eighth, enjoying a breakout 2021 season in which he won the NRL Premiership and was awarded Dally M Centre of the Year, scoring the opening try in the Grand Final.
After signing with Canterbury from the 2022 season, Burton quickly became the Bulldogs’ chief playmaker. In 2022, he:
– Made his State of Origin debut for New South Wales in Game 2 and scored a try
– Was selected for the Prime Minister’s XIII and the Australian Kangaroos squad for the 2022 World Cup
– Won the Bulldogs Members’ Player of the Year award.
Demonstrating strong leadership, Burton was appointed to the Bulldogs’ Leadership Group as Game‑Day On‑Field Co‑Captain in January 2023.
Burton played 23 matches in 2024, helping Canterbury return to the finals for the first time in eight seasons, finishing sixth. He followed with 21 matches in 2025, as the Bulldogs improved further to finish fourth.
Across his career to 2026, Burton has amassed 124 NRL appearances, scoring 45 tries and becoming one of the most influential playmakers in the competition.
