Player Bio

Mathew “Mat” Croker is a tough, hardworking middle forward for the Newcastle Knights, recognised for his no‑nonsense style, consistency, and leadership both on and off the field. A proud product of the Knights' junior pathway, Croker rose through their Harold Matthews, SG Ball, and Under‑20s systems, captaining the SG Ball side in 2017 and earning Player of the Year honours early in his development.

At representative level, Croker featured for New South Wales U16s and U20s, crossing for a try in the NSW U20s’ win in 2019, showcasing his impact in big‑game moments.

Croker made his NRL debut for the Knights in Round 13, 2021, against the Parramatta Eels after being elevated from a development contract due to injuries and representative absences in the squad. From there, he steadily established himself as a key part of Newcastle’s middle rotation. By the end of the 2025 season, he had played 82–83 NRL games, delivering strong defensive efficiency, high work rate, and reliability across multiple roles at prop and lock.

In May 2025, Croker re‑signed with Newcastle on a two‑year extension through the end of the 2027 season, reinforcing his long‑term commitment to the club he came through as a junior.

Off the field, Croker is widely known as the lead host of the 257 Collective podcast, which he co‑hosts with teammates Kalyn Ponga and Connor Watson, reflecting his strong personality, creativity, and connection with fans and the broader community.
