Player Bio

Ryley Smith is an exciting young hooker for the Parramatta Eels, making an immediate impression since debuting in Round 1 of the 2025 NRL season against the Melbourne Storm. Smith played 22 games in his rookie season, quickly establishing himself as a dynamic, high‑energy No. 9 and an important part of the Eels’ spine.

Born in Penrith, Smith progressed through the Penrith Panthers’ Harold Matthews and SG Ball pathways before joining Parramatta in 2024. He began his junior career with the Emu Plains JRLFC and attended St Dominic’s College, where he excelled across multiple sports. Remarkably, Smith represented the Australian Schoolboys in both rugby league and cricket, becoming the first dual‑code Schoolboys representative since the 1980s.

On the representative stage, Smith debuted for Malta in 2023, scoring a try across two Test appearances. His rapid rise at NRL level saw Parramatta reward him with a contract extension on 1 March 2025, later upgrading him into the club’s Top‑30 squad for 2026.

Standing 175 cm and weighing 85 kg, Smith is known for his sharp service from dummy‑half, strong defensive work, and impressive running game. With elite junior pedigree, representative experience, and a standout debut year behind him, he continues to shape as a key long‑term player for the Eels.
