Player Bio
Chantay Kiria‑Ratu is one of the brightest emerging playmakers in the NRLW, currently steering the Cronulla‑Sutherland Sharks around the park as their first‑choice halfback. A composed organiser with a big kicking game and natural game‑management instincts, she has rapidly developed into one of the competition’s most exciting young halves.
Her rise began through the elite pathways at Keebra Park State High School, where her talent quickly set her apart. She joined the Gold Coast Titans’ NRLW development program in 2022 and made her NRLW debut the following year, playing all 11 games in the 2023 season and helping guide the Titans to their first-ever Grand Final appearance. Her impact earned her the club’s Rookie of the Year award.
On the international stage, Kiria‑Ratu has represented the Cook Islands, debuting at the 2022 Women’s Rugby League World Cup, where she impressed with her kicking game and defensive work ethic. She continued her international duties across the 2023 Pacific Games and Pacific Championships, contributing to the Cook Islands’ strong campaigns.
In early 2024, Kiria‑Ratu suffered a major setback when she ruptured her ACL during a BMD Premiership match, ruling her out of the NRLW season. Despite the long-term injury, she remained committed to her development and recovery.
She returned in 2025, signing a three‑year deal with the Cronulla Sharks and immediately taking command of the No.7 jersey. Her long kicking game, poise under pressure, and improved game management saw her deliver several standout performances, including clutch contributions in tight contests. By the end of the season she had firmly established herself as the Sharks’ chief playmaker.
Off the field, Chantay’s journey is closely shared with her sister, Annemarie Kiria‑Ratu, who also plays within the Sharks pathway, adding a strong family dynamic to her career.
