Player Bio

Hamish Stewart is a rising forward for the St George Illawarra Dragons, making his NRL debut on 8 March 2025 in Round 1 against the Canterbury‑Bankstown Bulldogs at Jubilee Stadium.

Hamish grew up in Gerringong, NSW and is a proud junior of the Gerringong Lions, a club celebrated for producing top-level rugby league talent. His junior development included two seasons each in the Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball, followed by his rise to Jersey Flegg and a NSW Cup debut in 2023. He then spent 2024 on a development deal before being elevated to the Dragons’ Top 30 ahead of the 2025 season.

In his rookie 2025 NRL season, Hamish appeared in 19 games, averaging 60 run metres per match and completing 532 tackles at over 93% efficiency, earning him the Dragons’ NRL Emerging Talent Award. He continues to impress in 2026, maintaining strong defensive output.

Hamish is primarily a lock forward, known for his work rate, toughness, and defensive reliability. He’s part of a growing wave of Gerringong juniors progressing to the NRL, alongside players such as Tyran Wishart and Reuben Garrick.
