Player Bio

Kayla Romaniuk is a powerful and dependable middle‑forward for the Newcastle Knights in the NRLW, thriving in both the lock and prop roles. Known for her physicality, work ethic, and defensive steel, she has become a vital part of the Knights’ engine room.

She first joined the Knights system through their Tarsha Gale Cup squad in 2019, showcasing her strength and versatility at a young age. Her progress earned her a development contract with the Knights’ NRLW side in late 2021, before being elevated into the top squad ahead of the 2022 season.

Romaniuk made her NRLW debut for the Knights in 2022, playing at lock in a dominant win over the Dragons. She featured in the club’s historic 2022 NRLW Grand Final victory, contributing strongly as part of the middle rotation.

Her presence has continued to grow across multiple NRLW campaigns, amassing more than 30 appearances and developing into one of the most reliable forwards in the competition. Her consistency and leadership were recognised when she was named Vice‑Captain of the Knights in 2025.

Off the field, Romaniuk has become one of the NRLW’s standout community leaders. She made history as the first player to earn three consecutive Veronica White Medal nominations, highlighting her significant contributions across the Hunter region. In 2024, she was awarded the Knights NRLW Community Player of the Year.

Her development has also been reflected at representative level, earning selection for the Prime Minister’s XIII ahead of the 2026 season.
