Player Bio

Ryan Carr is an Australian rugby league coach whose career has spanned elite pathways on both sides of the world. A former playmaker (hooker/half/stand‑off) through the Sharks, Cowboys and Tigers pathways, Carr transitioned into coaching after lower‑grade stints with clubs including Balmain, Redcliffe, Mounties and the Illawarra Cutters. His early grounding as a half and team organiser has underpinned a coaching style built on detail, clarity and player development.

Carr’s first head‑coach breakthrough came with South Sydney’s Under‑20s (2017) before he led Mount Pritchard Mounties in the NSW Cup (2018), guiding them to the finals in his first season in charge. He then moved to England and enjoyed a strong year with Featherstone Rovers (2019), taking the club on a memorable run to the Million Pound Game after three sudden‑death wins, falling only to Toronto in the promotion decider.

Returning to Australia, Carr joined Parramatta (2020‑22), first as NSW Cup coach and later as NRL assistant during the Eels’ run to the 2022 Grand Final. He signed with St George Illawarra for 2023 and was elevated to interim NRL head coach in May following Anthony Griffin’s departure, finishing the season in charge of the Dragons.

In Super League, Carr took the reins at Castleford Tigers, appointed on a multi‑year deal ahead of the 2026 season. He has begun rebuilding the squad and culture at The Jungle, adding to a résumé that already includes a winning record in the UK second tier and top‑flight experience on both hemispheres.
