Player Bio

unior Tupou is a powerful and explosive winger who joined the Sydney Roosters midway through the 2025 NRL season, following an early stint with the Dolphins earlier that year. The move came after the Roosters secured him on a multi‑year deal through to the end of the 2027 season.

Born in Auckland and raised in Canberra, Tupou moved to Australia at 14 with ambitions to play in the NRL. After time with the Brumbies in rugby union, he returned to league and made his NRL debut for the Wests Tigers in Magic Round, 2022, scoring a try in the 13th minute and playing the full 80 minutes in an eye‑catching first‑grade introduction.

He enjoyed a breakout season in 2023, making 22 appearances for the Tigers and finishing as the club’s leader in line breaks (17), while also ranking inside the NRL’s top 25 for tackle breaks, highlighting his powerful ball‑carrying and evasiveness. His strong club form earned him a Tonga Test debut, featuring in their three‑Test series against England.

Ahead of the 2025 season, Tupou signed a three‑year deal with the Dolphins, but after just two games the club agreed to a mutual release, paving the way for his mid‑season transfer to the Roosters. He made his Roosters debut in Round 25 of the 2025 season.

Earlier in his development, Tupou represented NSW U16s and U18s, as well as the Junior Wallabies during his time in rugby union, and was voted the 2022 Knock‑On Effect Cup Try of the Year for Western Suburbs after a length‑of‑the‑field solo effort.

Now at the Roosters, Tupou brings size, athleticism and genuine strike power to the club’s backline as he continues to evolve into one of the competition’s most exciting young finishers.
