Player Bio

Karl Oloapu is a highly rated young playmaker whose career has already featured enormous promise, significant adversity, and an inspiring return to rugby league.

Oloapu is of Samoan heritage and developed through renowned junior systems in both New Zealand and Australia. He began playing for the Randwick Kingfishers before moving to Brisbane, where he represented the Redcliffe Dolphins at junior level and attended Wavell State High School.

An elite talent from a young age, Oloapu was signed by the Brisbane Broncos at just 13, progressing through their academy and starring in teams such as the Cyril Connell Challenge and Norths Devils’ Mal Meninga Cup squad. He also captained the Australian Schoolboys on tour in Fiji, a notable milestone that confirmed his status as one of the nation’s top emerging halves.

In late 2022 he joined the Canterbury‑Bankstown Bulldogs on a four‑year deal in January 2023. Oloapu made his NRL debut in Round 9, 2023, coming off the bench in a win over St George Illawarra. He appeared in seven NRL games that season and also featured strongly in NSW Cup.

However, his upward trajectory was disrupted by a serious neck injury, requiring spinal surgery and ruling him out of the entire 2024 season. The Bulldogs later sought salary‑cap relief and in February 2025 the two parties agreed to a mutual release for Oloapu to focus on his health and future.

In August 2025, after nearly two years away from the field, Oloapu made a remarkable comeback, returning to play for the Redcliffe Dolphins in the Brisbane Rugby League A‑Grade competition. His return marked his first appearance since the 2023 Jersey Flegg Grand Final and earned widespread praise given the severity of his injury and recovery journey.

Now signed with the Redcliffe Dolphins for the 2026 season, Oloapu is rebuilding his career with renewed confidence. A natural five‑eighth with strong game awareness, creativity, and playmaking instincts, he remains widely regarded as a player with significant long‑term potential as he continues to re-establish himself post‑injury
